A Cologne brewery in Berlin looks back on its history ...

The "Gaffel Haus Berlin" celebrates its 20th anniversary in Berlin in May 2023. Its eventful history is told here:

Whether it was a coincidence that the first offshoot of the "Gaffel Haus am Alter Markt" came into being in the immediate vicinity of Berlin's most beautiful square, the Gendarmenmarkt?

The Alter Markt is considered by far the most beautiful square in Cologne.

In October 2001, the contracts were signed and sealed. Then it took 19 months to transform the shell of the building at Taubenstraße 26 into the impressive ambience of the "Gaffel Haus Berlin am Gendarmenmarkt".

Finally, in May 2003, the opening was celebrated and the private brewery Gaffel Becker & Co. had a shop "under its own flag" in Berlin.

On 24 June 2005, Sidney Pfannstiel from Cologne took over the lease for the "Gaffel Haus Berlin" - at that time still with the proud addition of "Hauptstadtrepräsentanz der Privatbrauerei Gaffel Becker & Co".

The "GHB" now became what it still is today - a second home for all Cologne residents, Rhinelanders and friends of home-style, traditional German cuisine. In order to expand the steadily growing business, Sidney Pfannstiel looked around for a partner in August 2008.

He found what he was looking for in Heiko Lockenvitz, who has been developing, implementing and running successful gastronomy concepts for more than 20 years.

Since then, Heiko Lockenvitz has been the managing partner of Gaffel Haus Berlin. And Sidney remains closely connected to him and the house as a partner and friend.

On 20 December 2011, the doors of the "Gaffel Haus Berlin am Gendarmenmarkt" at Taubenstraße 26 were closed - with one eye crying and one eye laughing. It was off to Dorotheenstraße 65 - in the middle of Mitte - between the Fernstehturm and the Reichstag. True to the motto "Schöner-Größer-Kölscher", our new brewery-restaurant, the "Gaffel Haus Berlin an der Friedrichstraße", was created from a former Indian restaurant in only seven months of planning and construction. Now it had around 230 indoor seats and about 60 outdoor seats. Its new title: the "Kölsche Konsulat" in Berlin.

Countless pleasant hours have been spent in the Gaffel Haus Berlin and the crew of the capital's representative office hopes that you, too, will be convinced in the new brewery of the advantages of the wonderfully fresh Gaffel Kölsch on tap and the traditional German cuisine with original ingredients from the Rhineland and fresh quality products from regional suppliers.

We look forward to you also becoming part of the history of the "Gaffel Haus Berlin".
